Previous Tech Tips:
Remember that NTP is an open IP standard that provides time stamps from external Internet time sources. Also, know the two required components of Network Time Protocol (NTP.NLM and TIMESYNC.NLM). Finally, study the NTP.CFG configuration file carefully, and remember that only two commands are allowed: server and peer.
Remember that Transitive Synchronization allows servers that cant directly communicate to update NDS database changes. Also, remember that the WAN Traffic Manager allows you to restrict NDS traffic based on cost, time of day, type of traffic, and/or a combination of each.
Study the NetWare 5 Contextless Login feature very carefully. Remember that NDS Catalog Services is required to support Contextless Login and study the two specific requirements: NDSCat: Master Catalog object and Novell Client configuration.

When you sit down at the computer to take a Novell certification exam, take a deep breath and try to relax. Try not to hyperventilate (it will only make you dizzy). The good news is that you will probably find that taking exams usually tends to get a bit less nerve-wracking after you have taken several of them.
During a Novell certification exam, read each question carefully. Dont glance at key words in a question and assume that you understand the question. This is a very common mistake. For example, some questions may ask you to indicate which statements are not correct.
Often you have conflicts and do not realize it until your system inadvertently freezes or will not even complete the boot process. Sometimes it is obvious that the new sound card you plugged in is conflicting with your modem or scanner card. In such cases, you may receive an error message when attempting to install software to run the device or the device might not register on your system. Compiling a system resource inventory is a proven method to help resolve issues before they cause conflict.
TCP/IP is the protocol used to facilitate communication on the Internet. Millions of people utilize the Internet as an effective means of information. TCP/IP uses a subset of numbers known as an IP address to uniquely identify each computer. Windows 95 contains an easily configurable interface with which to connect to the Internet.
The purpose of any computer network is to facilitate the sharing of information. Most computer networks can be thought of as a cake with many layers. Each of its layers performs a very specific function and has a very specific relationship to its adjacent layers. In addition, there are many standards and specifications for how each of these layers is to operate.
A hub is a network device that connects PCs, Printers, and other devices to the network. Devices connecting to the hub are referred to as nodes. A hub receives a signal from a node or other network device such as another hub and regenerates the incoming network signal to all the other nodes connected to it. In a Star Topology based network, the hub provides a central point in which to connect all of the devices on the network. So basically the hub is the heart of the star type network. It is the central connecting point that regenerates and boosts the signal as it is being transmitted to an attached node.
A bridge divides a crowded LAN into two collision domains while providing a connection between the two of them to share resources when necessary. A bridge looks at each frame based on the destination devices MAC (each device has a network interface card (NIC) with a unique 6-byte Media Access) address. It decides on which of the two network segments the frame belongs to and transfers data only to the segment containing the address of destination network device. In this way, bridges help to filter traffic.
