Syllabus

OVERVIEW:

A certification program for IS professionals, VARs, resellers, engineers, and telephone company representatives involved in the acquisition, integration, and administration of computer telephony solutions.

An individual who achieves and maintains CTE status is an expert in the field of Computer Telephony. He or she has demonstrated the knowledge and skills to successfully interpret customer requirements, understand complex, multi-vendor computer telephony systems, and to quickly assimilate working knowledge of new CT products.

CTE status is achieved by taking five or more CT Institute courses, including the three CTE core courses that form the foundation of the CTE program, and by passing the corresponding exams. CTE status is maintained by taking periodic update (re-certification) courses.

HOURS:

Per lesson activity averages:

  • 5 - 6 hours Reading and Q&A per lesson
  • 1 – 1 1/2 hours Lab per lesson

Campus is open 24 hours/day for on-line study

PREREQUISITES:

System Requirements (Hardware & Software):

  • IBM compatible computer running Windows95 (recommended), Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0, 16 MB RAM, 20 MB free, uncompressed, hard drive space, mouse, CD-ROM drive, printer (optional), and SoundBlaster compatible card (optional)
  • (Optional) for LAB excercises: Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Deluxe Learning Edition product number: 046-00378.  This may be purchased at www.beyond.com, www.amazon.com and other online retailers. Suggested retail price is $139.00 (Note: Microsoft regularly offers a generous rebate).
  • A direct (PPP, CSLIP or SLIP) Internet account (direct or 28.8k+ dial-up connection) and supported browser (current release of Netscape Navigator or MS Internet Explorer)

Skills Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of your operating system (Win95/98, NT 4.0) including performing such tasks as locating files on your hard drive, installing application software, creating directories, as well as copying and moving files
  • Working knowledge of either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser including navigation and downloading files from the Internet onto your PC

CORE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

CT-10: Networking

This course provides an introduction to the world of data networking, wide area and local area networks, client-server computing solutions, common protocol stacks and essential data networking functionality. It is designed as a prerequisite to an individual pursing a complete working knowledge of computer telephony.

This course provides an overview of Data Communications, Networking Standards and Protocols (OSI, model and IEEE), LANs (topology, components, layouts), Intranets (WANs, Bridging, Routing, Gateways), and Network Operating Systems (NetWare, Microsoft NT, UNIX).

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to define data networking terms, define, describe and explain the principal features of key network services, and will understand the tradeoffs associated with different types of data networking equipment, cabling, and servers.

CT-20: Telephony

This course provides an introduction to the world of telephony, telephone networks, and telephony functionality. It is designed as a prerequisite to an individual pursing a complete working knowledge of computer telephony.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to define telephony terms, define, describe and graphically represent all significant telephony services and features, and will understand the trade-offs associated with different types of telephony equipment and telephone company services.

CT-30: Computer Telephony

This course provides an introduction to the world of CTI and CT Media Access. It is designed as a prerequisite to an individual pursing a complete working knowledge of computer telephony.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to define CT terminology, understand customer motivation for CTI and CT media solutions, explain CTI services, and will have experience planning a number of complete CT solutions.


SOLUTIONS COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

CS-10: Interactive Voice Response

This course provides practical knowledge of Interactive Voice Response (IVR) technology and how it can be applied in a range of CT solutions. The course covers design, implementation, and management of IVR systems. It is intended for any individual requiring the ability to plan, manage, or support an IVR system and is a prerequisite for courses on IVR products.

Upon completion of this course participants will be familiar with IVR concepts and terminology, understand customer motivation for using IVR technology and the ways in which it can be deployed, be able to assess and explain the advantages and disadvantages of various IVR techniques and strategies, be versed in guidelines and principals for successful IVR development, and will have experience planning a number of IVR solutions.


PRICE:

US$4,495 (excludes Sylvan Prometric Tests, $100 each and access charges by your Internet provider). Included in the program are three (3) core courses and two (2) solutions courses.
