Syllabus
OVERVIEW:
An entry-level certification program focused on providing individuals with critical computer hardware and software skills. A+ Certified Technicians possess the confidence, knowledge, and customer relation skills essential for success in the computer industry.
OBJECTIVES:
- Competency in PC configuration & troubleshooting
- Ability to install all microcomputer components (CPU, motherboard, floppy drives, I/O Ports, modems, network interface cards, power supplies mass storage devices, and memory).
- Proficiency in DOS & file management principles
- Understanding system boot sequences and approaches to diagnosis
- Understanding major system files of Windows and Windows 95 including tools and commands.
- Development and application of personal skills in the workplace
HOURS:
Per lesson activity averages:
- 5 - 6 hours Reading and Q&A per lesson
- 1 1 1/2 hours Lab per lesson
Campus is open 24 hours/day for online study
INCLUDES:
- Online Classroom - Weekly lesson plans and review sessions by Professor Wire, CyberStateU.coms virtual professor
- Three volumes of A+ Courseware from CSU - All approved by CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) to meet the requirements of the A+ Certification program
- The A+ Tests Interactive Learning System- a graphical study and practice exam software tool produced by the James Tower Intellitek Group and LearningWare
- The A+ Video Collection - 2 videotapes highlighting important A+ knowledge. (NTSC/VHS format)
PREREQUISITES:
System Requirements: (to access CyberStateU.coms virtual classroom and Practice Lab)
- IBM compatible computer running Windows95 (recommended), or Windows NT 4.0, 16 MB RAM, 20 MB free, uncompressed, hard drive space, mouse, CD-ROM drive, printer (optional), and SoundBlaster compatible card (optional)
- A direct (PPP, CSLIP or SLIP) Internet account (direct or 28.8k+ dial-up connection) and supported browser (current release of Netscape Navigator or MS Internet Explorer)
Skills Requirements:
- Working knowledge of your operating system (Windows95, NT 4.0) including performing such tasks as locating files on your hard drive, installing application software, creating directories, as well as copying and moving files
- Working knowledge of either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser including navigation and downloading files from the Internet onto your PC
